Myth #1: sales are "salsey" and will turn clients off

This one is probably one of the biggest myths. It’s not about sales, it’s about creating personalised and gorgeous artwork for our clients. That’s exactly why I call it a Design Consultation. Our clients have no idea what is possible. We are the experts and as artists, we need to give them every opportunity to buy from us. All we are doing is showing our clients the photos, helping them choose and designing artwork. It’s that simple.

Myth #2: people don't spend big money on photography

One of the biggest mistakes I made when I started was assuming what clients would spend. Stop assuming what people will and won’t spend on family portraiture, it’s up to them. Our job is to show them every possibility and let them decide. My biggest sale was $42K and I had no idea what she was going to spend, I simply just kept designing and creating series for her family. My second biggest sale was $35K during COVID. People do spend money on Family Photography!

Myth #3: you have to do more shoots to make more money

This is far from true! The way to make more money without getting burnt out is to increase your average sale. Let’s put this into perspective… I did a $11.4K sale the other day. A Photographer charging $1,000 would need to do over 11 shoots to make that ONE sale.
